Mahoba
Mahoba is a city in Uttar Pradesh with a long history it is proud of. It is located about 140 km from Jhansi where different dynasties have ruled Mahoba in history from the Chandela, Chauhans and Marathas fought for the ruling of Mahoba. Mahoba was finally passed to the British in 1803 through the famous Treaty of Bassein.

Mahoba attractions include the many water reservoirs built by Chandela rulers that are worth watching. These reservoirs were built to solve the water problem of Bundelkhand region which were the first water conservation schemes initiated by an Indian ruler. The 9th century Sun Temple that was built by Chandela King Rahila is made of granite and a fine example of Pratihara architecture.

Gokhar Hill is famous for the place where Baba Gorakhnath took shelter with his disciples. Followers of Nath sect of Hindusim frequent this site. Mahoba is famous for its impregnable hilltop fort and lakes. The Kakramath temple is a granite temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is found in Madan Sagar. Next to this temple you can find a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

The Vijay Sagar Pakshi Vihar is a picturesque bird sanctuary that was built by Vijay Pal Chandela in the 11th century. The Manaiya Devi temple found in Mahoba is a temple of the tutelary deity of Chandela which is located on the shores of Madan Sagar. There is a monolithic granite pillar about 18 ft high and 1.75 ft wide found here. The shrine of Pir Mubarak Shah, the Muslim saint from Arabia is also located nearby.

In addition to these many Mahoba attractions, Mahoba is also a great cultural center where you hear ballads that praise its days of glory while narrating the saga of the two brothers, Alha and Udal who had sacrificed their lives for their town.
