Uttar Pradesh Forts
Uttar Pradesh is a state of India that has a great history of numerous dynasties ruling the state. These dynasties have played a great impact on the architectural tradition of the state; and this has lead to the existence of many palaces and forts of Uttar Pradesh.

The Red Fort of Agra is the most elegant and splendid fort of Uttar Pradesh. It was Mughal Emperor Babur who had built this fort, and has since then undergone lots of additions to it. This fort has numerous buildings in its premises like the Divan-e-Khas, 64-Khambha, Divan-e-Aam and Jahangir Mahal. This is one of the biggest forts of Uttar Pradesh and India.

Moghul Emperor Akbar’s Sikri Fort, near the Fatehpur Sikri has many buildings of historical importance like the Tomb of Hazrat Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and Jama Masjid. The fort of Royal Scion of Varanasi is also known as Ramgarh Fort, and is located on the side of Ganges ghats of Varanasi.

When compared to the Red Fort and Fatehpuri Sikri, this fort is rather small. However it is very aesthetically designed. The other forts of Uttar Pradesh are the fort of Rani of Jhansi in Jhansi, which is the best fortified fort of India. The other fort is the fort belonging to Tantva Tope and Nana Saheb of Bithoor town. These forts have a mention in history during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

The permanent residence of the Maharaja of Kashi is a fort, the Ramnagar Fort. It is found on the opposite bank of the Ganges where its most important construction is the ‘Durbar Hall’ or the Hall of Public Audience. The architecture of this fort is a mix of Indian and Islamic styles where the use of marbles makes the fort look splendid.

The Chunar Fort of Chunargarh, which lies about 45 kilometers from Varanasi has a deep historical importance in the history of India. The architecture of this fort is a fusion where some parts are sure to catch your attention. The defunct sundial commissioned by King Vikramaditya is an example of such architecture.
