Uttar Pradesh is a state offering lots of attractions, culture, traditions and cuisine to make it a place worth visiting. In addition to all this, there are numerous wildlife sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh that wildlife enthusiasts have to visit.
One such wildlife sanctuary is the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve that is located on the Indo-Nepal border in the district of Lakhimpur-Kheri of Uttar Pradesh. This sanctuary has an area of 614 sq. km. and is one of the best examples of the taraj eco-systems. Its northern edge is on the Indo-Nepal border while its southern boundary lies on the river Suheli. You find lots of endangered species of animals here including leopards, hispid hare, Bengal Florican and the Swamp deer. You find the Kishanpur Sanctuary about 30 km from Dudhwa, which is about 200 km large. It lies on the banks of Sharda River and is surrounded by Sal forests of the adjoining forests. You find the largest kind of Indian deer, the Swamp deer here which is famous for its magnificent antlers. The rare gangetic dolphin is found in the National Chambal Sanctuary, which was founded in 1979. It is part of an area that is jointly administered by Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The other inhabitants of this sanctuary are magar, nilgai, sambar, chinkara, gharial, wolf and wild boar. You can find swamp deer, leopard, hyena, chital, gharial and wild boars in the Hastinapur sanctuary. The Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary is found on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway where you find rare Siberian migratory birds. Next in the line of wildlife sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh is the Patna bird sanctuary, which is located in the Jalesar sub division of Etah district. This sanctuary has an area of 108 hectares, and was first a resort that gained recognition as a bird sanctuary in 1991. There are over 300 different species of exotic birds found here, which have plumes that cluster for roosting and breeding during the winter months. You find this wildlife sanctuary to give scenic beauty that resembles the topographic atmosphere found in Goa. It is the intertwined date trees found here that provide this effect. There are not only migratory birds found here, but also local birds and there is an old and historic temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva in its near vicinity that attracts thousands of pilgrims. |
